MSc Thesis: Investigation Into Extreme Tides in conjunction with Royal Haskoning UK. "This involved utilizing wave data from 15 ports in the UK from the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) and weather data (synoptic charts and daily pressure & wind speeds) from the British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC), both organizations are part of the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) Designated Data Centre. The problem: the Joint Probability chart in the Water industry used by coastal engineering community for flood risk assessments implies “that a 200 year sea level with zero waves would have a return period in 200 years.” This was estimated as incorrect and in order to become a standard for Planning Policy Statement 25 (PPS25) which sets out UK’s Government policy on development and flood risk various consultancy firms assist in the research. "
