Expierence:

  • Previously a climate modelling researcher at VU University Amsterdam, Dr. Van Meerbeeck has been involved in 7 international research projects. There, he has been investigating the driving mechanisms of climate change in collaboration with 25 world-class institutes and published over 20 articles thus far. Focus areas have included past, present and future climate in Europe, the Atlantic, Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. In those projects, he has been coordinating and implementing climate modelling efforts to advance the state-of-the-art in climate science, while guiding specialists from other fields in aligning efforts to attain the project goals.
  • Alongside his PhD and postdoctoral research experience, he has been supervising graduate students in their MSc and PhD Climate Modelling research, and taught diverse under- and post-graduate courses in Climate and Earth Sciences. Furthermore, he is experienced in funding acquisition, both through academic project proposals and as external R&D consultant for two Dutch based environmental consultancies (i.e. ECORYS and Hydrologic Research | Delft). Finally, serving as board member of a research school (Netherlands School for Geo-Environmental Research), he acquired managerial experience aside from project management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Climate services consulting (mainly for the Caribbean Community)
  • Setting up climate modelling research focusing on the Caribbean
  • Training professional meteorologists and hyrdrologists in Climatology for the World Meteorological Organisation
  • Teaching under-graduate courses in the field of Climatology at the University of the West Indies
